Grok Bot is xAI's always-on agent product. Each assigned task gets its own persistent cloud computer, its own logins, and the ability to keep working after your device is closed. Rather than answering questions or generating documents, it connects directly to software applications and email services to carry out work in place of a human user.
The app requires no workflow-building or automation setup. Users message the Bot the way they'd text a coworker, and it takes over from there. Each agent remembers past interactions, learns your preferences, and can be taught a routine by watching you do it once, then run that routine independently going forward.
Cloud desktops, not API wrappers
The key technical differentiator is what xAI calls "computer use." Each bot operates a full cloud desktop environment, driving web and native applications through their visual interfaces. That lets it navigate tools with no clean API or MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, the kind of legacy enterprise software that automation tools have always struggled with.
The multi-agent layer is where things get interesting. You can spin up several bots and drop them into a shared thread:

The all-stock acquisition, announced days after SpaceX's historic IPO and less than two months after the initial tie-up was disclosed, is the largest purchase of a venture-backed startup on record. SpaceX expects the deal to close in the third quarter.
Grok Bot was developed inside Cursor under the internal code name "Sand." It is the first product born of the integration: downloads, onboarding, and sales channels all run through Cursor's infrastructure, and the two offerings reach the market already intertwined. The macOS installer itself is served from downloads.cursor.com.
Why now
The timing isn't accidental. The merger is meant to help SpaceX's AI division, built around Elon Musk's xAI, catch up to the major labs. Despite being a centerpiece of the IPO pitch, xAI has been in the middle of a painful restructuring after a string of controversies. All 11 of Musk's xAI co-founders had left by the end of March, and Musk publicly conceded that xAI "was not built right the first time around."
Cursor, for its part, had signaled that aligning with SpaceX would give it access to xAI's Colossus supercomputer in Memphis, a cluster with the equivalent of roughly a million H100s, easing the compute shortage that had capped its growth. Cursor's category share had slid from 41% in June 2025 to around 26% in May, per Ramp spending data, with Anthropic now holding half the market. Both sides had a problem the other could solve.
Who wins, who loses
The clearest winners are teams already paying for a qualifying tier who have repetitive, multi-step digital work to hand off. The clearest losers are point-solution automation tools like Zapier and Make, whose value proposition rests on the premise that you need to pre-configure every automation. Grok Bot's no-setup approach is a direct shot at that model.
In product logic and vocabulary, this moves SpaceXAI close to Anthropic's Claude Cowork, another product built around AI agents for general office work rather than coding alone, tasks that keep running in the background when the laptop is closed, and seamless switching between desktop and mobile. Cowork launched in January 2026 as a desktop app and expanded to web and mobile in July. OpenAI, meanwhile, has folded Codex into ChatGPT and is building a "super app" with a heavy B2B tilt.
The awkward dynamic: Anthropic is one of SpaceX's largest compute customers. SpaceXAI is now competing head-to-head with a company it simultaneously hosts on Colossus.
Pricing and access
Grok Bot isn't cheap, and that's deliberate. Access is currently bundled into three tiers:

These rates sit a long way above the $8/month consumer tier. The pricing logic is consistent: an agent that acts on its own inside company systems justifies itself if it replaces hours of human labor, and that math works in a professional context, not for occasional use. Enterprise customers get funneled to a waitlist for future access.
The security question you can't ignore
Handing an AI agent standing access to your email, CRM, and internal tools isn't a trivial decision. The bot authenticates with your credentials and acts autonomously, with human approval as the only brake on sensitive actions. That widens the attack surface and exposes you to prompt injection.
Prompt injection, where malicious content in a document or email tricks the agent into taking unintended actions, remains the most immediate risk in any computer-use agent. The approval-gate model helps, but only if you actually review what the bot is about to do. Hold off if you need production-grade reliability today, work in a regulated or high-security environment, or aren't comfortable granting an autonomous agent standing access to your accounts.
What is now possible
The most significant shift here is what Grok Bot removes. Every previous generation of automation required a human to design the workflow first: map the steps, build the integration, handle the edge cases. Grok Bot inverts that. You describe the outcome, show it once if needed, and the system figures out the path.
Musk followed up within an hour of launch to confirm a wider rollout tied to the release of Grok 4.6. The beta gates are expected to open further as the model improves. For now, the product is deliberately scoped to paid subscribers, a signal that SpaceXAI is treating this as premium, enterprise-grade software rather than a consumer feature.
The broader implication is that the agent race has moved from demos to distribution. What shipped alongside Grok Bot matters: a messenger-style interface ordinary users can operate on day one, a real mobile app with full parity, and a distribution channel through Cursor that puts the product in front of a developer audience already paying for AI tooling. Getting agents into the hands of people who will stress-test them, and pay for the privilege, is the fastest path to making them reliable enough for everyone else.
