  • Vib2ECG releases the first dataset pairing 12-lead ECG with IMU vibrations at all six chest-lead positions.
  • Data covers 17 subjects, sampled at 1 kHz, synchronized via a shared FPGA clock across sensors.
  • A 364K-parameter U-Net baseline reconstructs ECG from two-band SCG plus PCGL input.
  • Splitting vibrations into SCG (2-20 Hz) and PCGL (above 20 Hz) is critical since SCG holds 96% of energy.
  • The model hallucinates fake ECG waveforms when input is noisy or heart sounds S1 and S2 are confused.
  • Dataset and loader scripts are publicly available for download.

A standard 12-lead ECG records the heart’s electrical activity through ten electrodes: four on the limbs and six across the chest. That setup works in a clinic but complicates continuous monitoring during sleep, exercise, or daily activity.

Vib2ECG addresses that constraint with a dataset and benchmark for reconstructing chest-lead ECG waveforms from seismocardiography, or SCG. SCG captures the heart’s mechanical vibrations through an inertial measurement unit (IMU), a low-cost sensor found in many phones and watches.

Six chest positions close the data gap

Clinical ECG provides 12 electrical views of the heart. The precordial leads, V1 through V6, sit over the chest and help clinicians localize abnormalities such as ST-segment changes associated with myocardial infarction.

Previous ECG-reconstruction work has focused largely on limb leads because public datasets lacked synchronized vibration measurements at all six precordial positions. Single-lead wearable ECG and Lead II estimates derived from wrist photoplethysmography do not contain the same spatial information. Vib2ECG adds paired mechanical measurements at V1 through V6, allowing researchers to study the local relationship between chest motion and electrical activity at each site.

Six positions, one shared clock

The release contains recordings from 17 participants. Each session combines a full 12-lead ECG with IMU measurements co-located at the six standard precordial positions.
