Universal Modder Lets Claude Code Build Playable Game Mods Automatically
A new open-source Claude Code plugin turns the agent into a full modding pipeline: engine recon, reverse engineering, fal-generated assets, in-game testing, and showcase video cutting.
- universal-modder is an MIT-licensed Claude Code plugin that automates PC game modding end to end.
- Bundles 12 engine playbooks covering Unity, Unreal, Bethesda, Source, Godot, Minecraft, AoE2 and more.
- Uses fal for sprites, PBR textures, 3D models, rigging, SFX, music and voice generation.
- Ships a
umCLI with scan, fal, sprite, render3d, win capture, video and backup commands. - Refuses online/anti-cheat games and never ships game files or decompiled code, only patches and converters.
- Includes working examples: a Terraria weapons mod and an AoE2 San Franciscans civilization with Robotaxis.
Universal Modder packages game-modding workflows for Claude Code
Universal Modder is a new MIT-licensed Claude Code plugin that scans games, selects an engine-specific modding route, generates code and media, tests the result, and packages a playable mod. It combines Claude Code with a Python CLI and fal, which supplies generated images, 3D models, sound, music, and voice.
The project gives agent developers a concrete way to encode specialist knowledge as reviewable instructions and tools. Engine heuristics live in Claude Code skills, local operations run through the um command-line interface, and media generation passes through a structured external service.
Planning, tools, and generation stay separate
The plugin divides the workflow across three components, which makes each part easier to inspect, replace, or extend.
| Component | Role | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code skills | Instruction packs that guide engine detection, route selection, reverse engineering, asset preparation, testing, and packaging. | mod-any-game, game-recon, asset-pipeline |
um CLI |
Scriptable local operations used by the agent or directly by a developer. | um scan, um render3d |
| fal MCP server | Structured access to image, 3D, audio, and voice generation. | Sprites, PBR textures, rigged models, sound effects, music |
Model Context Protocol, or MCP, gives Claude a defined interface for calling external tools. The fal server uses that interface to expose generation tasks without placing service-specific logic inside every skill.
Setup has six moving parts
The complete workflow requires Claude Code access and Python 3.10 or later. Other dependencies apply only to the stages that use them.
| Requirement | When it is needed |
|---|---|
| Claude Code subscription | Running the agent and plugin |
| Python 3.10+ | Running the um CLI |
| fal API key | Generating images, models, audio, or voice |
| ffmpeg | Recording and editing showcase videos |
