Runway just added Seedream 5.0 Pro to its image generation tool, giving users access to ByteDance's latest image model directly inside the Runway interface. The model can generate highly detailed images from a prompt or a reference image, and it renders legible in-image text in up to 14 languages. It's the highest tier in ByteDance's Seedream image-model family, sitting above the 5.0 and 5.0 Lite versions that shipped earlier, and ByteDance bills it as a "professional" and "cinematic" generator aimed at commercial work such as product photography, ad creatives, and branding.
Compared to previous versions, Seedream 5.0 Pro delivers across-the-board improvements in foundational capabilities such as image-text alignment, structural coherence, text rendering, and visual aesthetics. It also introduces four core capability breakthroughs: complex information visualization, interactive precision editing, realistic imagery and portrait textures, and native multilingual input and generation.
The editing model is the real story
Most AI image generators produce one output per prompt. If the result is close but not right, the only option is to revise the prompt and regenerate. Seedream 5.0 Pro is designed around a different starting point: the first generation is a draft, not a final answer.
Seedream 5.0 Pro can use point selection, lasso selection, box selection, sketches, color swatches, material references, and multi-image inputs to edit a specific region rather than regenerating the entire image. It also supports layer separation, letting a poster be split into editable assets such as text, subject, background, and decorations, with occluded background areas restored during the process.
