Packt's TwinLlama-3.1-8B Turns Your Writing Into a Personalized AI for $25
A full production LLM Twin blueprint pairing data ETL, fine-tuning, RAG, and AWS deployment with LLMOps tooling under an MIT license.
PRO- End-to-end LLM Twin system: crawl, fine-tune, RAG, deploy on GitHub
- Companion code for the LLM Engineer's Handbook by Paul Iusztin and Maxime Labonne
- Uses ZenML, Poetry, MongoDB, Qdrant, Comet ML, Opik, AWS SageMaker together
- Produces TwinLlama-3.1-8B-DPO, a Llama 3.1 8B fine-tuned via SFT plus DPO
- Full end-to-end run costs about $25, mostly SageMaker training and inference
- MIT licensed, 5,000+ stars, follows Domain-Driven Design across four package layers
Most LLM tutorials stop at a Colab notebook. The LLM Engineer's Handbook repository from Packt goes the other direction, shipping a full end-to-end system that crawls your own writing, fine-tunes a Llama 3.1 model on it, wraps the result in a RAG pipeline, and deploys everything to AWS SageMaker with monitoring and CI/CD wired in. It is the companion code for the book by Paul Iusztin and Maxime Labonne, and it has now crossed 5,000 stars on GitHub.
The project is organized around building an LLM Twin: a personalized model that imitates a writer's style using their own content. TwinLlama-3.1-8B was created for the book and acts as a digital twin, cloning the authors' voice and drawing knowledge from their articles. The final trained checkpoint is available on Hugging Face, so you can inspect the output before running any training code yourself.
What is actually in the box
The repo is a real production codebase, not a notebook dump. It follows Domain-Driven Design principles, splitting the core package into domain, application, model, and infrastructure layers, with imports flowing from infrastructure through model and application into domain. Pipelines are orchestrated with ZenML, dependencies are managed by Poetry, and tasks are exposed through Poe the Poet so most operations become one-liners.
