OpenAI's Codex Plugin Lets Claude Code Users Get a Second AI Opinion
OpenAI published an open-source plugin that lets Claude Code users invoke Codex for reviews, background tasks, and session handoffs with slash commands.
- OpenAI released codex-plugin-cc, an open-source plugin bringing Codex slash commands into Claude Code.
- Commands include /codex:review, /codex:adversarial-review, /codex:rescue, /codex:transfer, /codex:status, /codex:result, /codex:cancel.
- Requires Node.js 18.18+ and a ChatGPT subscription (free tier works) or OpenAI API key.
- Delegates to the local Codex CLI, reusing existing auth, config, and repo checkout.
- Optional review gate blocks Claude from finishing until Codex approves the output.
- Supports background jobs, branch reviews via --base, and session handoff into Codex.
If you live inside Claude Code but want a second opinion from a different model on your pull requests, OpenAI just made that trivial to wire up. The company published codex-plugin-cc, an Apache-2.0 licensed plugin that lets you call Codex from inside a Claude Code session using slash commands. It's aimed at Claude Code users who want an easy way to start using Codex from the workflow they already have.
The plugin doesn't bundle a new runtime or a separate model server. It delegates through your local Codex CLI and Codex app server on the same machine. That means the same install, the same auth state, and the same repo checkout Codex would use if you ran it directly.
What you actually get
The plugin registers a handful of /codex:* slash commands inside Claude Code. Each one wraps a specific Codex workflow:
/codex:reviewruns a normal Codex review on your current work. It gives you the same quality of code review as running /review inside Codex directly./codex:adversarial-reviewruns a steerable review that pressure-tests design choices, tradeoffs, and hidden assumptions rather than just line-level nits./codex:rescuehands a task off to Codex through a dedicated subagent, useful for bug hunts, fixes, or continuing a prior Codex task.
