Open-Source Zero Turns Slack Into a 100-Tool AI CoworkerPRO
  • vm0 (Zero) is an open-source AI teammate you @mention in Slack to run real work.
  • Ships with 100+ tool integrations including GitHub, Gmail, Notion, Linear, and Sentry.
  • Every task executes inside its own Firecracker microVM, keeping credentials sandboxed and auditable.
  • Features memory, scheduled runs, parallel sub-agents, and cross-tool identity resolution.
  • Targets founders, sales, engineering, and ops with role-specific recipes and templates.
  • Fully open source at vm0-ai/vm0, with a hosted commercial tier at vm0.ai.

A new open-source project called vm0 (branded as Zero) is aiming to be less of a chatbot and more of a Slack-native colleague you can hand a standing job to. It has crossed 1,000 GitHub stars, is written in TypeScript with Rust crates underneath, and pitches itself around a simple idea: you @mention it, describe the outcome, and it figures out which tools to touch.

What Zero actually does

Zero is an agent runtime that plugs into the software a team already uses and executes multi-step work end to end. It connects to more than 100 tools, including Slack, GitHub, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Sheets, Notion, Linear, Sentry, Axiom, HubSpot, Intercom, Figma, Vercel, Dropbox, DocuSign, Deel, Airtable, Ahrefs, Plausible, Resend, X, and Reddit. The marketing site claims a broader 1,400+ integrations across the hosted product, with the open-source repo shipping the core runtime and a companion skills repo for connectors.

The interaction model resembles briefing a junior teammate. You describe the goal in Slack or on the web, and Zero picks which integrations to call, in what order, then reports back when done.

The pieces that make it feel like a coworker

  • Memory that carries past decisions, project context, and preferences across sessions, so you are not re-pasting the same background every morning.
