NanoClaw Locks Claude Agents in Docker to Beat OpenClaw's Security Risks
A minimalist open-source project runs Claude agents inside Docker containers, connects them to messaging apps like Slack and WhatsApp, and swaps configuration for code edits.
PRO- NanoClaw is a lightweight open-source alternative to OpenClaw for personal AI agents.
- Agents run in isolated Docker containers with filesystem sandboxing, not application-level allowlists.
- Connects Claude agents to Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Teams, iMessage, and 8+ other channels.
- No config files: customization happens by editing source with Claude Code inside your own fork.
- Architecture is two SQLite files per session bridging host router and agent container.
- Credentials stay outside the container via OneCLI's Agent Vault, injected at request time.
A new open-source project called NanoClaw pitches itself as the anti-framework for personal AI agents. It runs Claude-powered assistants inside Docker containers, wires them up to your messaging apps, and keeps the codebase small enough that you can read it end to end.
The author frames it explicitly as a stripped-down alternative to OpenClaw, and the argument is a security one. OpenClaw has nearly half a million lines of code, 53 config files, and more than 70 dependencies. Its security lives at the application layer through allowlists and pairing codes rather than true OS-level isolation, and everything runs in one Node process with shared memory. NanoClaw inverts that: one process and a handful of files, with each agent running in its own Linux container behind real filesystem isolation.
Chat apps in front, containers underneath
Rather than shipping a web dashboard or a dedicated client, NanoClaw hooks agents directly into messaging tools you already use. The repo lists support for WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Microsoft Teams, iMessage, Matrix, Google Chat, Webex, Linear, GitHub, WeChat, and email through Resend, installed on demand via /add-<channel>
