Krea puts its AI agent inside After Effects

Krea has released an After Effects extension that places its creative AI agent in a docked panel. Editors and motion designers can prompt Krea Agent to generate assets, develop motion concepts, resize media, and organize composition layers without moving files through a separate browser workflow.

What reaches the timeline

Krea Agent serves as a chat-based orchestration layer across the company’s image, video, audio, and enhancement tools. A user describes an intended result, and the agent selects tools and runs the required steps. The After Effects extension brings that workflow into the host application and gives the agent context about the active composition.

Krea says the extension can perform four main tasks:

  • Create motion graphics from a prompt
  • Resize existing videos for different aspect ratios
  • Generate and place images, audio, and other assets
  • Group loose layers into organized compositions

Asset generation focuses on material that can feed an existing timeline, including source images, environments, textures, and background plates sized for the composition. A real-time mode updates generated imagery beside the canvas as the user changes prompts and colors.

Model routing behind the panel

Krea hosts more than 150 models for image, video, audio, editing, and enhancement work. The agent routes each request to a model suited to the task, such as preserving a reference image, rendering text, exploring several visual directions, producing video, or upscaling a result.

That routing also supports multi-step jobs. The agent can generate several background options in parallel, select outputs for further processing, upscale a still, and place the resulting asset into the composition. This reduces manual exports and imports during early exploration while keeping the resulting layers available for further work in After Effects.

Useful jobs and firm limits

The extension targets repetitive setup, asset production, and visual exploration. Likely uses include:

  1. Adapting a 16:9 edit for vertical platforms, followed by a manual review of framing and keyframes
  2. Generating texture overlays, background plates, and stylized design elements
  3. Grouping an unstructured layer stack into nested compositions
  4. Prototyping several motion-graphics directions before refining one

Precise animation, expressions, compositing, and timing still require After Effects work. Generated video can introduce flicker, unstable geometry, inconsistent details, and continuity errors between frames. Editors should inspect every output and expect to use masking, color correction, temporal cleanup, or original footage to stabilize generated material.

The same agent in more places

Krea has been expanding its agent into established creative and development environments. Its MCP server connects Krea tools to compatible clients such as Claude and Cursor, while a separate ChatGPT integration exposes the agent through OpenAI’s interface.

The After Effects extension applies that strategy to motion design by placing generation and workflow automation beside the composition they affect. Its practical value will depend on output quality, compute consumption, and how reliably composition-aware actions preserve an editor’s existing structure.
