Kilo Code Ships Mobile App So 3M Developers Can Steer AI Agents Anywhere

Kilo Code, the open-source agentic coding platform used by over 3 million developers, just shipped its mobile app on both Google Play and the App Store. The pitch is straightforward: your coding agents should keep running even when you step away from your laptop, and now you have a dedicated way to steer them from your phone.

What the app actually does

You can spin up a Kilo Cloud Agent, give it a task, and review its work from the chat -- full agentic coding backed by Kilo's managed infrastructure, without opening a laptop. That alone makes it more than a monitoring dashboard. Here is what the app covers:

• Cloud Agent sessions: Start a new cloud agent and review its output directly from the chat interface.
• Remote session access: Connect to a Kilo session running on your own machine via CLI or VS Code, send instructions, review diffs, and keep an eye on long-running tasks while away from your desk.
• Cross-platform monitoring: A read-only view into sessions running outside the app -- CLI, IDE, Slack, or cloud -- so you can see what your agents are doing in real time, even when you cannot intervene.
• KiloClaw management: Chat with your KiloClaw instance, update it, restart it, and manage its secrets from the app.
• Model selection: Pick from 500+ models or let Auto Models route for you, with live token cost tracking on every session.

Existing Kilo users do not need a new account. The app signs in with your existing credentials, and Kilo Pass or pre-paid tokens are managed from the web admin panel.

KiloClaw: the always-on agent behind the app

A big part of the mobile app's value proposition is KiloClaw, Kilo's managed hosting service for OpenClaw agents. Kilo launched KiloClaw as a fully managed service designed to deploy a production-ready OpenClaw agent in under 60 seconds, eliminating the SSH, Docker, and YAML barriers that have historically gatekept high-end AI agents.

Unlike standard Kilo Code workflows that spin up a terminal session only when a developer initiates a command, KiloClaw is persistent -- it is just running and listening, waiting for your WhatsApp message or your Slack message. The mobile app becomes the natural remote control for that always-on agent. Each instance runs in a dedicated Firecracker VM with persistent storage, native chat-app integrations, and 500+ models via Kilo Gateway, with setup taking under 60 seconds -- no Docker, SSH, or YAML required.

The platform underneath

Kilo has crossed 3 million users and processed over 40 trillion tokens since launching in early 2025. The company raised $8 million in seed funding, led by Cota Capital with participation from Breakers, General Catalyst, Quiet Capital, and Tokyo Black. Co-founders include Scott Breitenother as CEO and Sid Sijbrandij, previously the CEO of GitLab.

The platform's core differentiator has always been model freedom with no markup. Kilo charges users the exact API rates provided by the model vendors, with zero markup on AI tokens. The team also shipped Auto Model routing, which picks the right model per subtask -- planning, coding, debugging, explanation -- based on task type and budget tier.

After Roo Code archived in May 2026, Kilo became the default editor-native migration path for that community, adding to an already fast-growing user base. The mobile app extends that momentum into a new surface area that no direct competitor currently occupies.

What is still coming

The Android app is live now, but the iOS situation is more nuanced. The Kilo App for iOS is listed as coming soon, with a waitlist open to chat with Cloud Agents, manage remote coding sessions, and steer KiloClaw from an iPhone. Kilo's tweet announcing the launch mentioned both Google Play and the App Store, suggesting the iOS release is either in limited availability or rolling out in parallel.

For pricing, KiloClaw runs at $55 per month for the Standard tier, or $51 per month on a 6-month commit. Kilo Code credits for the Gateway range from $19 to $199 monthly depending on the tier. The extension itself remains free and open source under Apache 2.0, with bring-your-own-key (BYOK) support if you want to skip the Gateway entirely.

The mobile app does not change Kilo's pricing model -- it is a free companion for existing subscribers. For teams already running cloud agents or KiloClaw instances, it closes the gap between "agent running on a server somewhere" and "agent I can actually supervise and redirect from anywhere." That is a meaningful quality-of-life upgrade for anyone who has ever come back to a laptop to find an agent stuck on a problem for three hours.
