Inbox Zero's Rakazo Lets You Self-Host AI Agents Without Vendor Lock-In

An open-source project called Rakazo is trying to strip the vendor lock-in out of the Grok Bot pattern, where each agent lives inside a persistent computer of its own. The repo, built by the team behind Inbox Zero, has picked up over a thousand stars and ships the entire chat app, sandbox supervisor, and multi-client stack under Apache 2.0.

Each bot has one thread, one computer, memory, routines, and history, and the repository contains the complete core product, which runs without a Rakazo-operated control plane. The bots you spin up are not tied to any hosted backend. You point them at whatever model provider you want, and their execution environment lives on hardware you control.

Bring your own brain and your own machine

The pitch on the product site is straightforward: every bot gets a sandboxed browser and shell running in your Docker, in your account, behind your firewall, and credentials never leave it. Model choice is decoupled from the runtime, so you can point a bot at Claude, GPT, Grok, or a local model, and swap per bot so the cheap one triages while the smart one writes.
