Hermes WebUI Hits 14K Stars After Community Rebuilds Its Entire InterfacePRO
  • What happened: nesquena/hermes-webui, a community-built open-source web UI for Nous Research's Hermes Agent, surged ~30.6% to ~14k GitHub stars in one week.
  • UI overhaul: Contributor @aronprins delivered a complete redesign in v0.50.0, moving controls to the composer footer and replacing the settings panel with a tabbed Hermes Control Center.
  • New onboarding: Contributor @gabogabucho added a first-run wizard that guides users through provider setup entirely in the browser, lowering the setup barrier significantly.
  • What it does: Three-panel browser UI (sessions, chat, workspace file browser) with full CLI parity, no build step, built in Python and vanilla JS, free and MIT-licensed.
  • Underlying agent: Hermes Agent by Nous Research offers persistent cross-session memory, self-hosted cron scheduling, self-improving skills, and support for 10+ messaging platforms.
  • Get it: Clone and run python3 bootstrap.py, or pull ghcr.io/nesquena/hermes-webui:latest from GHCR; community managed hosting available at Agent37 from $3.99/mo.

Hermes WebUI is not an official product release. It is a community-built, MIT-licensed open-source project by developer Nathan Esquenazi (nesquena) that gives Nous Research's Hermes Agent a full browser interface. The repo just crossed ~14,000 GitHub stars with 30.6% growth in a single week, a spike driven by a major contributor-led UI overhaul and a wave of community momentum around the underlying agent.

The project behind the numbers

Hermes Agent is a sophisticated autonomous agent that lives on your server, accessed via a terminal or messaging apps, that remembers what it learns and gets more capable the longer it runs. Hermes WebUI is a lightweight, dark-themed web app interface in your browser for Hermes Agent, providing full parity with the CLI experience. The key design philosophy: no build step, no framework, no bundler. Just Python and vanilla JS.

This gives you nearly 1:1 parity with Hermes CLI from a convenient web UI which you can access securely through an SSH tunnel from your Hermes setup. A single command starts it up, and a single command opens the SSH tunnel. Every single part of the web UI uses your existing Hermes agent and existing models, without requiring any additional setup.

What lit the fuse

The growth spike traces back to a single community contribution. @aronprins delivered the biggest single contribution to the project: a complete UI redesign that moved model/profile/workspace controls into the composer footer, replaced the gear-icon settings panel with the Hermes Control Center (tabbed modal), removed the activity bar in favor of inline composer status, redesigned the session list with a action dropdown, and added the workspace panel state machine.

A circular context ring replaces the old linear token pill with a hover tooltip showing percentage used, token counts, auto-compress threshold, and estimated cost. A single Hermes WebUI launcher button at the bottom of the sidebar replaces the gear-icon settings modal. Alongside that, contributor
