Harvey is an open-source sales agent that had collected more than 2,300 GitHub stars within its first weeks. The project discovers prospects, researches companies, drafts cold-email sequences, processes replies, and is designed to book meetings.
Harvey sends model requests through subscription-backed command-line interfaces, or CLIs. Claude is the default, using the claude CLI with a Claude Pro or Max subscription. The optional Codex path uses a ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Business plan. This design removes the need for a separate usage-based Anthropic or OpenAI API account.
| Component | Default behavior |
|---|---|
| Model runtime | Claude CLI with Claude Pro or Max |
| Alternative runtime | Codex CLI with an eligible ChatGPT plan |
| Control loop | Runs every 15 minutes |
| Email approval | Human review required by default |
| Dashboard | Loopback-only interface at localhost:5555 |
| External export | Sequencer-ready CSV through harvey export |
The cost model changes the architecture
Model-driven sales agents can consume substantial API credit because research, scoring, drafting, and reply handling run repeatedly. Harvey moves that usage onto an existing subscription allowance. Operators still pay for the subscription, email infrastructure, optional data providers, and any compliance services.
The scheduler reads the active provider’s reported subscription usage and throttles work to preserve capacity. The documented max_daily_claude_percent setting controls how much of the Claude allowance Harvey may consume, leaving headroom for other work. Actual throughput remains subject to provider quotas, CLI behavior, and applicable service terms.
The project documentation estimates that comparable commercial prospecting tools start at $250 to $500 per month. It also reports that single-provider contact coverage can fall near 30% for local businesses with five to 50 employees. Those figures come from the project’s own comparison and will vary by market, geography, and data source.
