OpenMuse is CopilotKit’s new open-source template for building a personal agent with its own browser, terminal, file system, integrations, and durable task engine. Developers can clone, inspect, self-host, and extend the application instead of assembling those components from separate projects.
The repository has passed 5,500 GitHub stars and uses a React Native codebase that targets iOS, Android, and the web. OpenMuse is available under the MIT license, while CopilotKit labels the current release as an alpha for self-hosting and further development.
The agent arrives with a computer
OpenMuse packages a server, durable task worker, browser worker, mobile and web clients, and optional Linux computer into a full-stack application. Developers supply the model and provider credentials when moving beyond the bundled sample configuration.
| Component | What the alpha provides |
|---|---|
| Chat | Streamed AG-UI events, retained drafts, a visible follow-up queue, and inline cards for email, browser, PDF, planning, and finance results. |
| Agent computer | Persistent Chromium profiles, a browser takeover console, and an optional isolated Linux terminal with a persistent /workspace volume. |
| Task engine | Editable plans, progress tracking, approvals, pause, resume, cancellation, retries, and recovery through SQL leases. |
| Goals and tracking | Recurring checks of public pages for changes, text availability, or USD price thresholds, with duplicate alerts suppressed. |
| Gmail and Calendar | OAuth connections, complete email threads, drafts, attachments, and reviewed calendar-event creation. |
| Document workflows | PDF viewing and form filling, including a flow that moves an email attachment through review and into a drafted reply. |
