  • Composio Community published open-dot, a self-hosted Mac app for background personal agents.
  • Each agent gets a persistent Chrome profile, memory, and connection to 1,500+ apps via Composio.
  • Supports OpenAI models plus Kimi, DeepSeek, Qwen and GLM through OpenRouter.
  • A smaller review model gates risky actions against plain-English rules you write.
  • Code execution runs on E2B cloud sandboxes, local Docker, or a Mac folder.
  • No notarized build yet; requires pnpm build, Node 22+, and runs on localhost:3100.

Open Dot brings persistent AI agents to the Mac

Open Dot is a self-hosted macOS app for running multiple AI agents in the background. Published under the Composio Community organization, the TypeScript project combines Electron and Next.js with persistent browser sessions, app integrations, scheduling, voice calls, and configurable approval rules. Within days of its initial push, the repository had passed 500 GitHub stars.

The project applies the operating model of OpenAI’s hosted Dots product to a user’s own machine. Its README says OpenAI’s version requires ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium, while Open Dot accepts an OpenAI API key or models such as Kimi, DeepSeek, and Qwen through OpenRouter. The maintainers state that the project has no affiliation with OpenAI.

Persistent agents, separate browsers

Each dot is a long-running agent with its own Chrome profile, memory, and allowed tools. Browser sessions and conversation state persist between tasks, giving the agent access to the accounts and context it used previously.

  • Each dot has a browser that remains signed in and can be viewed from the Computer tab. A user can take control for a login or CAPTCHA, then return control to the agent.
  • Site passwords are encrypted using a key stored in the macOS Keychain. According to the maintainers, credentials are entered directly into the page without being exposed to the model.
  • Composio connects Gmail, Calendar, Slack, Notion, GitHub, and more than 1,500 other apps. Approval rules can require confirmation before an agent sends, posts, pays, or changes data.
