  • Aura open-sourced Autopilot, an in-editor playtesting agent under Apache 2.0.
  • Supports Unreal Engine 5, Unity 6 and Godot 4 on Windows and macOS.
  • Hit 7/7 on a seven-task Unreal benchmark vs 5/7 for Claude Code, at 1.7x the speed.
  • Architecture pairs a coding agent that writes a per-game macro-action harness with a fast decision model.
  • Features per-project memory, A* navigation, and sub-model reflex actions for twitch moves.
  • Works with your own Claude Code, Codex, or Aura subscription; two-week free trial, no card.

Game studios spend substantial engineering and QA time replaying levels, repeating inputs, and checking features after each build. The team behind Aura has open-sourced Autopilot, an in-editor agent that performs those functional tests by controlling the game in real time.

Autopilot supports Unreal Engine 5, Unity 6, and Godot 4 on Windows and macOS. The code carries an Apache 2.0 license, and the system combines a coding agent with a faster decision model designed for moment-to-moment gameplay.

From prompt to play session

Developers install the engine plugin, sign in, and describe a task in natural language. Autopilot organizes requests into four modes:

  • Exploration: “Explore the crafting system in Lvl_Main.”
  • Testing: “Go through the open level and report anything that looks wrong.”
  • Verification: “Verify that the tree shakes when hit with an axe.”
  • Goal: “Kill the boss while keeping health above 20%.”

Each run launches the engine’s play session, called play-in-editor or PIE in Unreal. The agent inspects project source code, reads runtime state through the plugin, controls the game, closes the session when finished, and generates a report.

Developers can connect Claude Code or Codex through Autopilot skills and its Model Context Protocol server. Setup uses one terminal command:

  • autopilot connect claude
  • autopilot connect codex

Aura also offers a two-week trial without requiring a payment card. Running the system requires either a connected coding-agent setup or an Aura account.
