Anthropic just became the most valuable private AI company on the planet. The company raised $65 billion in a funding round that valued it at $965 billion post-money, eclipsing rival OpenAI's value for the first time. The round is almost certainly its last before going public, and the numbers underneath it tell a story that is hard to process even by the standards of the current AI boom.

The deal, unpacked

The Series H was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital. Each of the lead investors put in more than $2 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. The round is not just a venture story, though.

• The round was co-led by Capital Group, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, GIC, ICONIQ, and XN.
• It also includes $15 billion of previously committed investments from hyperscalers, including $5 billion from Amazon.
• Strategic infrastructure partners, Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix, also joined, bringing chip-supply relationships alongside capital.
• TechCrunch had previously reported Anthropic was closing a $50 billion round, with investors clamoring to get on the cap table. One institutional investor had even pledged as much as $5 billion just to get a meeting with Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao.

The newest round almost triples Anthropic's valuation from February, when it was worth $380 billion. That February Series G itself was only three months ago. Anthropic raised $13 billion in September 2025, $30 billion in February 2026, and $65 billion in May 2026 , more than doubling round size twice in under nine months.

The revenue ramp that justified it all

The valuation only makes sense when you look at the revenue trajectory, and even then it takes a moment to sink in. At the end of 2025, Anthropic's run rate was $9 billion. By February 2026, it had reached $14 billion. By April, it crossed $30 billion. And as of late May, the figure stands at $47 billion. That is a 47x increase in revenue over 17 months.

Two engines are driving this:

• Enterprise adoption: More than 1,000 businesses are paying Anthropic at least $1 million annually, a figure that reportedly doubled in under two months after the February Series G. Roughly 70 percent of Fortune 100 companies now use Claude in some capacity.
