xAI just shipped the Grok Build Plugin Marketplace, a built-in catalog that lets you browse, install, and update tool integrations without ever leaving your terminal. The launch brings six partner plugins at once, covering the database, deployment, observability, and browser layers of a typical full-stack workflow. This is not a minor feature drop , it is xAI's first real move to turn Grok Build into a platform rather than a standalone coding agent.

What Grok Build actually is

Grok Build is xAI's coding agent and CLI for software engineering work. The CLI first rolled out in beta around mid-May 2026. Think of it as a terminal-native AI agent that reads your local codebase, edits files, runs commands, and coordinates subagents. The marketplace is the distribution layer that now sits on top of all of that.

The marketplace adds a discovery and distribution layer on top. Before this, developers wired up each integration one at a time. Now a single command pulls a complete bundle into the agent.

Six plugins, one full-stack picture

xAI launched the Grok Build Plugin Marketplace as a set of built-in plugins for Grok Build. A plugin bundles skills, slash commands, agents, hooks, MCP servers, and LSPs into one installable package. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard that lets agents communicate with external tools and data sources in a structured way. LSPs (Language Server Protocols) give the agent language-aware code intelligence.
