
Vercel's v0 just added Claude Opus 5 to its model lineup on the same day Anthropic officially released it. If you build full-stack apps with v0, you can now point the model selector at Opus 5 and get what Anthropic is calling its most capable generally available model for everyday engineering work.
What Opus 5 actually is
Compared with Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Opus 5 is a step-change improvement rather than an incremental one, delivering frontier intelligence at half the cost of Claude Fable 5. That's the core pitch: it comes close to the frontier intelligence of Fable 5 at half the price. Fable 5 is Anthropic's most powerful publicly available model, so sitting just below it while costing half as much is a meaningful position in the lineup.
This is the fourth model Anthropic has released in less than two months, following Mythos 5, Fable 5, and Sonnet 5 in June. The pace is relentless, and Opus 5 fills a specific gap: a stronger Opus gives Max, Team, and Enterprise customers somewhere to move without paying Mythos rates.
The numbers that matter
Benchmarks are always worth scrutinizing, but these are hard to dismiss:
- On Frontier-Bench v0.1, an agentic terminal coding benchmark, Opus 5 scores 43.3% , more than double Opus 4.8's 18.7% and well ahead of Fable 5's 33.7% , at a lower cost per task.
- On CursorBench 3.2, at max effort, the model performs within 0.5% of Fable 5's peak score, but at half the cost per task.
- On ARC-AGI 3, an evaluation of novel problem-solving, Anthropic reports Opus 5 scored three times as high as the next best model.
- On OSWorld 2.0, a computer-use benchmark, the company says the model surpasses Fable 5's best result at just over a third of the cost.
