Runway has announced a strategic enterprise partnership with MIXI, one of Japan's largest gaming and entertainment companies, deploying Runway's AI video and world model tools across MIXI's entire creative organization. The deal is more than a licensing agreement: the two companies plan to jointly explore how Runway's emerging world models can power entirely new kinds of gaming, animation, and interactive experiences.

The two companies at the center of this

Runway is an AI video-generation startup valued at $5.3 billion, having raised $860 million in total since its 2018 inception. The New York-based company describes itself as an applied AI research company building world models for universal simulation, as well as video generation models used by tens of millions of consumers and enterprises.

MIXI is a key player in Japan's digital entertainment sector, best known for its mobile game Monster Strike, having evolved from social networking roots to include a variety of digital entertainment, sports, and lifestyle services. Monster Strike has achieved over $11 billion in gross revenue, with 99% originating from Japan. MIXI currently has a market cap of around $1.08 billion and trailing 12-month revenue of $1.14 billion.

What changed, and how fast

MIXI had already been using Runway internally before this announcement. The partnership formalizes and expands that relationship, and the production numbers are striking:
