Perplexity is bringing its Personal Computer agent to Windows, pushing its bet that the next AI battleground is not a chat box but the desktop itself. The product is pitched as an always-on AI agent on your Windows desktop that works across your local files and Microsoft apps, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and OneDrive. Access will start with a waitlist for paying Max and Enterprise Max subscribers.

This is the Windows version of a product Perplexity already shipped on macOS. The company announced that its AI-powered Personal Computer platform is coming to Windows, expanding beyond its initial Mac-focused rollout, bringing Perplexity's vision of an always-on AI agent to the world's largest desktop operating system.

What the agent actually does

Personal Computer is not a chatbot grafted onto a sidebar. You point it at approved folders and it can open, read, and edit the files inside them, work across Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and OneDrive without copying answers between tabs, and start a task from your phone or another machine and finish on your Windows desktop.
