# Replit Canvas Now Generates Images, Videos, and Animated SVGs in One Workspace

> Replit Canvas gets multi-edit, GPT-Image 2, Seedance video generation, and animated SVGs — turning it into a full agentic design-to-code workspace

[Replit Canvas](https://replit.com/canvas) just got a meaningful upgrade. What started as a visual design surface for building apps has grown into something closer to a full creative production environment: you can now generate images, produce videos, animate SVGs, and edit multiple design elements at once, all without leaving the workspace. The update is live now and free to start.

## From design tool to agentic workspace

Replit Canvas is an agentic design tool and creative workspace that lets users build websites, mobile applications, and marketing assets. Unlike traditional chat-based AI, it provides a spatial environment where users can visually explore design variants, iterate on ideas, and convert mockups directly into functional code or polished digital assets.

The key word here is **agentic**: Canvas does not just respond to prompts one at a time. This expansion follows the Replit Agent 4 visual design canvas launch, addressing the bottleneck of translating creative mockups into code. The idea is that the gap between "I have a design" and "I have a working app" should collapse into a single step.

## What's actually new

Four concrete things shipped in this update:

- **GPT-Image 2 for image generation.** OpenAI's GPT Image 2 introduced a reasoning model into image generation. Unlike the diffusion predecessors of DALL-E 2 and DALL-E 3, GPT Image models are autoregressive with capabilities including image-to-image transformation, advanced photorealism, and detailed instruction following. Replit now routes image generation requests through this model directly inside Canvas.
- **Seedance for video.** Seedance 2.0 is a multimodal AI video generation model developed by ByteDance's SEED lab. It accepts text prompts, reference images, and audio clips as inputs, then produces high-definition video in a single unified generation pass. This architecture separates it from many earlier models that required separate image-generation and video-animation stages.
- **Animated SVGs.** Canvas can now generate scalable vector graphics with built-in animation, useful for UI elements, loaders, and lightweight motion graphics that don't need a full video pipeline.
- **Multi-edit visual editor.** A new visual editor enables multi-edit support for precise control over layout, typography, and spacing. These tools allow users to adjust colors, spacing, and typography across multiple elements simultaneously while improving the overall mobile design experience.

## The design-to-code pipeline

Replit Design, applied frequently with the Design Canvas, is the bridge between aesthetic vision and code. Drag, resize, and manipulate graphically, and the AI writes the underlying code in real time. This is the core value proposition: visual manipulation that produces real, deployable output rather than static mockups.

You can now use specialized templates to generate full-stack web applications, interactive posters, or marketing campaigns. Templates cover e-commerce stores, portfolios, data dashboards, mobile onboarding flows, and wedding invitations, among others. Each serves as a starting point that the agent can expand from natural language instructions.

## Where it fits (and where it doesn't)

Canvas is strongest for:

- Rapid prototyping of landing pages, marketing assets, and app UIs
- Teams that want to iterate on visual design before committing to a full build
- Non-technical users who need polished output without writing code
- Generating rich media (images, video, animated SVGs) inside a single environment

Replit's compute limits and browser-based workflow won't replace a local development setup for serious projects. It's best as a prototyping and deployment tool, not your primary IDE. For complex, production-grade systems with custom infrastructure requirements, you'll still want to reach for a traditional dev environment.

## The broader shift this represents

This shift reflects a broader industry move toward spatial interfaces that replace linear chat with persistent canvases. The chat-box paradigm forces you to think sequentially. A canvas lets you hold multiple ideas in parallel, compare variants side by side, and hand off directly to a build agent. Replit is betting that this spatial model is where creative software development is heading.

It's worth noting the model choices here are deliberate. GPT-Image 2 is currently one of the strongest instruction-following image models available. Seedance 2.0 ranks second globally on the Artificial Analysis Video Arena leaderboard with an ELO score of 1,271. Replit isn't building its own media generation stack; it's routing to best-in-class external models and wrapping them in a unified design workflow.

## Pricing

Replit offers a free Starter plan, a Core plan at $25/month ($20/month billed annually), a new Pro plan at $100/month for teams, and custom Enterprise pricing. Canvas is accessible on all tiers, but heavier usage hits the credit system quickly. Complex Agent tasks, like building a full-stack app with authentication, database setup, and deployment, can consume $5-10+ in credits in a single session. A simple landing page or marketing asset will cost considerably less. Once credits are depleted, overage charges accumulate with no default spending cap, so it's worth setting a budget before going deep on a build.

If you're already in the Replit ecosystem, this update makes Canvas a significantly more capable first stop before handing off to the Agent for code generation. The combination of multi-modal asset generation and direct-to-code export is the closest thing yet to a single tool that covers the full arc from idea to deployed product.
