# MindsDB Replaces Dozens of AI Data Connectors With One Open-Source SQL Endpoint

Connecting an AI agent to real business data is usually the ugly part of the job. You end up gluing together bespoke tools for Postgres, Snowflake, Salesforce, Gmail, and Slack, praying nothing drifts out of sync. [MindsDB](https://github.com/mindsdb/mindsdb) tries to collapse that mess into one endpoint, and the project has quietly become one of the largest open-source MCP servers on GitHub, sitting at roughly 39K stars and 6.2K forks.

## One SQL surface for every data source

MindsDB is a query engine that lets humans, AI agents, and applications get answers across sprawled data sources, with a built-in MCP server that unifies and responds to questions over federated data spanning databases, warehouses, and SaaS applications. It does not store or own the data. It speaks SQL to clients and each source's native protocol to the underlying systems, acting as a uniform read/write surface across the stack you already run.

The practical model is simple. Agents connect to MindsDB once via SQL or the Model Context Protocol and get a single tool for reading every connected source. Instead of giving the agent one bespoke tool per provider, which blows up the prompt and the failure surface, the agent issues SELECT statements and MindsDB dispatches them to the right handler.
