# CopilotKit open-sources OpenMuse, a personal agent with its own browser

CopilotKit has released [OpenMuse](https://github.com/CopilotKit/openmuse), an MIT-licensed personal agent for self-hosting. The alpha combines a persistent Chromium browser, an optional Linux container, a durable task worker, and an Expo client targeting iOS, Android, and the web from one React Native codebase.

OpenMuse turns a requested outcome into a visible plan, executes each step, queues follow-up work, and returns artifacts for review. Its design follows the Meta Muse pattern and extends CopilotKit’s earlier OpenBot work with persistent tasks, browser handoff, approval gates, and structured results.

## An agent-side machine

OpenMuse keeps execution inside an agent-owned environment. Persistent Chromium handles public websites, while the optional Linux workspace runs commands and manages files. PDFs can move between the app, browser, and workspace. Logins, captchas, checkout steps, and other interactive screens can be handed to the user without abandoning the current browser session.

OpenMuse presents plans, browser activity, artifacts, and approvals in one interface.

The optional Linux environment places several boundaries around command execution:

* Commands run as a nonroot user inside a container.
* The container receives no host-directory mounts or host credentials.
* A named `/workspace` volume preserves files after the container stops.
* Terminal networking is disabled, routing web access through the browser worker.
* Each command has a 30-second limit and produces a saved receipt.

## Inside the alpha

The alpha exposes six connected surfaces across the app:
