# BytePioneer-AI's Codex-Host Lets Developers Run Claude Code and Pi in One Window

> BytePioneer-AI released codex-host, an open-source layer that runs Pi and Claude Code as native sessions inside Codex Desktop.

A community team called BytePioneer-AI has published [codex-host](https://github.com/BytePioneer-AI/codex-host), an MIT-licensed project that lets you run Pi and Claude Code from inside OpenAI's Codex Desktop app while keeping the native chat, diff, and approval UI intact. The repo has around 1,700 stars. The pitch: one desktop client, with your choice of which agent executes each task.

Developers juggling multiple coding agents typically juggle multiple clients too. Switching from Codex to Claude Code or Pi means a new window, a new session store, and a fresh set of file-context assumptions. Codex-host collapses that into a single surface.

## What it actually does

Codex Desktop acts as the host UI, and you choose the real executor per task. Pi and Claude Code run against their own local models, authentication, and configuration, while Codex behaves like the stock app. Each agent gets its own independent thread, so there are no manual terminal switches between them.
