# ByteDance Opens FlowGram, the Visual AI Workflow Engine Powering Coze

> ByteDance open-sources FlowGram, the React/TypeScript workflow canvas engine powering Coze Studio, with 8k+ GitHub stars

[FlowGram](https://github.com/bytedance/flowgram.ai) is ByteDance's open-source framework for building visual AI workflow editors -- the kind of drag-and-drop node canvas you see in tools like Coze, Dify, or n8n. The twist: FlowGram is not a finished product. It's not a ready-made workflow platform; it's the framework and toolkit to build yours. Think of it as the engine you drop into your own app to get a production-grade workflow editor without writing all the plumbing from scratch.

FlowGram is a composable, visual, easy-to-integrate, and extensible workflow development framework and toolkit. It's written in TypeScript, MIT-licensed, and has accumulated over 8,100 GitHub stars and 731 forks. The project ships with 95 releases and is actively maintained, with the latest version (v1.0.12) pushed recently.

## Battle-tested in production at ByteDance

FlowGram is not a side project. The FlowGram team provided a high-quality workflow building engine for Coze Studio's frontend workflow canvas editor. Coze Studio is ByteDance's flagship open-source AI agent development platform -- meaning FlowGram's canvas is already running at scale in a real product. It also powers the Feishu (Lark) low-code platform and Feishu Bitable, ByteDance's internal productivity suite.

Beyond ByteDance's own products, the adoption list is growing. NNDeploy is a workflow-based multi-platform AI deployment tool, and Certimate is an open-source SSL certificate management tool that uses a visual workflow to automatically apply for and deploy SSL certificates. This kind of real-world usage is a strong signal that the abstractions hold up under production conditions.

## What's actually inside the box

FlowGram comes with a suite of built-in tools for workflow development: a flow canvas, node configuration form, variable scope chain, and ready-to-use materials (LLM, Condition, Code Editor, etc.). Here's a breakdown of the four core subsystems:
